A training seminar sponsored by the Indiana Association of Building Officials, Inc. a chapter of the International Code Council, Inc.


Indiana Association of Building Officials will host a seminar on August 24, 2017 to present and discuss Introduction to Sprinklers, Pumps and Standpipes


Date:  August 24, 2017

  • Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • Class will start at 9:00 a.m.
  • There will be 1 hour for lunch
  • Class will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Cost*:

Member $100, this fee will cover the instructor and materials

Non-member:  $125, this fee will cover the instructor and materials

Lunch will not be provided


*IABO is applying for a grant for this class.  Please do not pay in advance.  Invoices will be mailed after the class.



The Course is worth .6 CEUs/6 contact hours.


Course Description:
Knowing the various types of fire protection systems that go into a building is the key to understanding their role in protecting property and lives.  This program will take the participant through the various components of sprinkler systems, fire pumps and standpipes and discuss how the systems work individually and collectively to provide protection from fire in buildings.  Starting with a bit of history on these systems the seminar covers the type of systems, types of sprinklers, pump types and components, terms and basic definitions used in NFPA 13, 14 and 20.


Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this seminar, the participant will be able to:

- Identify the components of fire sprinkler systems
- Identify the components of fire pumps and drivers
- Identify the components of a standpipe system
- Discuss how these three systems interact to provide water-based fire protection within a building
- Discuss the importance of inspection, testing and maintenance

Presenter:  Ron Ritchey
Ron Ritchey began his career with the National Fire Sprinkler Association after retiring from the Lafayette Indiana Fire Department with 23 years of service, sixteen of those years as Assistant Chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau.  He is now responsible for oversight of membership services for the five state region in the Great Lakes area and travels throughout the United States conducting training programs to improve the understanding and implementation of the codes and standards relating to water-based fire protection systems.


Mr.Ritchey holds numerous state and national certifications, and his education includes earning an Associate's Degree in Public Safety and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management.  He has developed and presented many training seminars for code officials, code consultants, building owners, and design professionals throughout the country and has served as Co-Chairman for the Fire Inspectors Association of Indiana's (FIAI) Building and Fire Code Committees.


Ron is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, the International Code Council, numerous fire chief and fire inspector associations, and is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist and Instructor.


Mr. Ritchey has received a number of awards and recognitions from both state and local organizations and has served on and chaired various technical code committees representing the fire service.


Registration Deadline:

The registration deadline is August 17, 2017.  Registrations received after August 17 will not be guaranteed class materials at the time of class.


Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be received in writing no later than August 17, 2017 to avoid penalty.  All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $10.  Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.
