Legal Aspects of Code Administration
This training is being presented to benefit ICC Midwest Region V. All proceeds from this course will be donated to support ICC Midwest Region V’s mission of creating a stronger and more unified network of building safety professionals across Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan.

Payment should be made at the time of registration unless you are a member of the Indiana Association of Building Officials.
This course consists of six contact hours and earns 0.6 ICC PPN CEU's.
This course has been approved for CEUs by the states of Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan.
Course Description:
This virtual seminar will provide code officials with guidelines for administering the legal aspects of codes with regard to enforcement, prosecution, and maintenance. In this course participants will discuss historical consequences of ignoring the regulation of building construction and materials, and learn how to interpret and applying local government, state and federal legislative laws, pertaining to the administration and enforcement of a building code. Participants will learn how to define and apply concepts which are legally important to the administration and enforcement of a building code and establish or document rules of procedure used before a board of building code appeals. By using the guidelines presented in the course, participants will learn how to effectively testify in a court of law.
Instructor: Linda S. Pieczynski
Linda S. Pieczynski is a former assistant state’s attorney and municipal prosecutor in DuPage County, Illinois. She devotes her legal practice to teaching and writing about the legal aspects of code administration including building, property maintenance, fire and zoning codes. She conducts trainings nationwide for the International Code Council (ICC). She is the author of numerous code related books including The Building Process Simplified, The Residential Inspector’s Guide to Codes, Forms and Complaints, The Fire Inspector’s Guide to Codes, Forms and Complaints, The Building Official’s and Inspector’s Guide to Codes, Forms and Complaints, and The Property Maintenance Inspector’s Guide to Codes, Forms and Complaints, all published by Cengage. She also has served as editor of revisions to the Legal Aspects of Code Administration published by ICC.
Registration Deadline:
The registration deadline is October 16.
After registration is successfully submitted a confirmation email will be sent to the email address entered during registration.
Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be received in writing no later than October 16, 2022 to avoid penalty. All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $50. Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received. It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification. Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.
