Fire Sprinkler System Plan Review

A training seminar sponsored by the Indiana Association of Building Officials, Inc. a chapter of the International Code Council, Inc.


Date: Thursday, November 17, 2022

  • Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • Class will start at 9:00 a.m.
  • There will be 1-hour allotted for lunch (lunch will not be provided)
  • Class will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Location:  Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St., Zionsville, IN 46077

Parking:  Attendees SHOULD NOT park at Zionsville Town Hall Parking has been coordinated at Kroger and Zionsville Christian Church.  The registration confirmation email will include the map showing where parking is available and how to get to the Town Hall via sidewalks/trails.

*IABO has applied for funding through the Statewide Fire and Building Safety Education Fund (675 IAC 12-11).  Please DO NOT pay in advance as an invoice will be sent following the class.


This course consists of six contact hours and earns 0.6 ICC PPN CEU's.


Course Description:

Examining fire sprinkler shop drawings, cut sheets and hydraulic calculations is a primary duty of the authority having jurisdiction. This course will provide a method of reviewing plans and other fire sprinkler documents that is efficient and thorough. Attendees will learn what documents to accept to start a review, what steps to take through the fire sprinkler design and systems review, and how to have confidence while reviewing hydraulic calculations. This course applies current codes and standards to fire sprinkler systems from the initial site plan review, through the construction documents, to the as-built drawings. Significant time on how to effectively communicate deficiencies to the design professional. Students will receive a handout that provides detailed checklists with expert commentary that is useful to the fire sprinkler plan reviewer for years to come.


Instructor:  Brad Cronin

Brad Cronin has over twenty years of experience in the fire service, and serves as the Acting Deputy Chief of Training for the Newport, RI Fire Department. He is an instructor for the Massachusetts State Fire Academy, National Fire Academy, Society of Fire Protection Engineers and the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA); he has also been an instructor and author for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). He has experience performing fire code inspection and plans review as a licensed Fire Marshal for the State of Rhode Island. He serves on and chairs several NFPA Technical Committees and UL Standards Technical Panels. Brad is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist has B.S. Degrees from both Saint Michael’s College and University of Cincinnati in Business Administration and Fire Safety and Engineering Technology and a Master’s in Public Administration from Anna Maria College.


Registration Deadline:

The registration deadline is November 13, 2022 at 11:59 pm.  No registrations will be received after November 13 and no walk-ins will be allowed the day of the training.

After registration is successfully submitted a confirmation email will be sent to the email address entered during registration.


Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be received in writing no later than November 13, 2022 to avoid penalty.  All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $50.  Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.


Attendance Notice Regarding Certificates/Funding: 

Indiana Association of Building Officials is committed to complying with the requirements of the Division of Fire and Building Safety, as they administer the education fund.

As Indiana Association of Building Officials submits the request for funding on behalf of the membership, IABO will not submit an attendee’s name who does NOT attend the entire class; failure to attend the entire class renders that attendee ineligible for funding.
