A training seminar sponsored by the Indiana Association of Building Officials, Inc. a chapter of the International Code Council, Inc.


Date: Wednesday, December 13, 2023

  • Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • Class will start at 9:00 a.m.
  • There will be 1-hour allotted for lunch (lunch will not be provided)
  • Class will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Location:  Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St., Zionsville, IN 46077

Parking:  Attendees SHOULD NOT park at Zionsville Town Hall Parking has been coordinated at Kroger and Zionsville Christian Church.  The registration confirmation email will include the map showing where parking is available and how to get to the Town Hall via sidewalks/trails.

Course Description:

This workshop will focus on basic National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) information, mapping, fundamental duties of the floodplain administrator, building protection standards, floodplain regulations found in the 2020 Indiana Residential Code, Indiana’s flood control & lake preservation acts, post flood responsibilities, increased cost of compliance, variances in the SFHA and mitigation measures.  We will also cover DNR websites in some detail so users will better understand the information they can obtain there.  The seminar will also include exercises that go through map reading and permitting under the NFIP.

 

Instructors:  Doug Wagner, CFM and Darren Pearson, CFM

Doug Wagner, CFM is the Senior Water Planner with the Floodplain Management Section of the Division of Water, where he began in November of 2018.  He was previously the floodplain administrator for White and Carroll counties earning his CFM in 2014.  He is responsible for training and outreach, including floodplain management workshops and serves as editor for the Division’s Waterlines newsletter, a quarterly publication.  Doug is a member of INAFSM and ASFPM and has presented several workshops and informational sessions to realtors, surveyors, contractors and local citizens in the communities where he worked.  He has continued to provide several workshops to communities and other professionals since joining DNR.

Darren Pearson, CFM is the State NFIP Coordinator with the Floodplain Management Section of the Division of Water, where he has worked since 2001.  He previously was the water planner for the southern portion of the state and the senior planner.  His work centers on implementation of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) under the Community Assistance Program (CAP), a Federal grant, providing information and technical assistance in regards to the NFIP and floodplain management.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from Ball State University.


Registration Deadline:

The registration deadline is December 10, 2023 at 11:59 pm.  No registrations will be received after December 10 and no walk-ins will be allowed the day of the training.

After registration is successfully submitted a confirmation email will be sent to the email address entered during registration.


Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be received in writing no later than December 10, 2023 to avoid penalty.  All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $50.  Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.


Attendance Notice Regarding Certificates/Funding: 

Indiana Association of Building Officials is committed to complying with the requirements of the Division of Fire and Building Safety, as they administer the education fund.

As Indiana Association of Building Officials submits the request for funding on behalf of the membership, IABO will not submit an attendee’s name who does NOT attend the entire class; failure to attend the entire class renders that attendee ineligible for funding.
